We’ve all experienced the humidity and heat of Georgia summers, which feel longer every year. Are you sitting in front of a fan, sticking your face in the freezer, or simply dripping in sweat in your own home?

It’s not fun when the air conditioning unit breaks while it’s still hot outside. The team at Precision Heating & Air has put together some tips for staying cool if your air conditioner stops working.

Five Tips to Keeping Your House Cool

If your air conditioner stops working, keep the following tips in mind to try to beat the Georgia heat.

Lower the Blinds

If your air conditioning unit stops working, keep the shades down and blinds closed. During the hottest times of the day, the sunlight comes through your windows and creates a greenhouse effect. Blocking out as much sunlight as possible is a great way to keep your home comfortably cool.

Crack the Windows at Night

Once the sun goes down, the temperatures tend to follow. Opening the windows at night will allow for some of the hot air to get out as the cooler air comes in. Make sure you close the windows as soon as the sun rises to keep out as much hot air as possible.

Turn Down the Heat

Avoid using appliances that are going to heat your home to keep the inside of your house as cool as possible when your air conditioner isn’t working. Instead of using the oven or stove, use an outdoor grill. Also, try to keep the humidity to a minimum by taking showers and doing laundry early in the morning or late at night.

Cool Off with Fans & Ice

A great trick for cooling down your home is to grab a few fans and bowls of ice. Place a bowl of ice in front of any table fans you have in the home to create a mini air conditioner.

Switch the Fan

Pull the hot air up. When you switch your ceiling fans to spin counterclockwise, they will pull the hot air up rather than pushing it back down on you and your family while also circulating the cool air.
