Most people are aware that outdoor air pollution can damage their health but may not know that indoor air pollution can also have significant effects. EPA studies of human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasionally, more than 100 times higher than outdoor levels. These levels of indoor air pollutants are of particular concern because it is estimated that most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors.

Over the past several decades, our exposure to indoor air pollutants is believed to have increased due to a variety of factors, including the construction of more tightly sealed buildings, reduced ventilation rates to save energy, the use of synthetic building materials and furnishings, and the use of chemically formulated personal care products, pesticides, and household cleaners.

Honeywell F100 Electronic Air Cleaner

Features

High efficiency media filter captures particles as small as 1.0 micron.
Efficiency and arrestance ratings based on the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers Standard 52.2-1999.
Fractional Efficiency: 15% (0.3 micron particles).
Minimum Efficiency Reporting Valve (MERV): 8 at 492 fpm.
Applicable to all gas, oil, and electric forced warm air furnaces and to compressor cooling up to 5 tons. Can be used with heat pumps only if the filter is changed regularly. Not recommended for applications where pressure drop may be critical.
Mounts in the return air duct.
Cabinet can support weight of residential furnace and evaporator coil.
Requires no electrical connections.
Mounts in any position.
Requires no maintenance except periodic media filter replacement.
Media filter is easily replaced by homeowner.

Honeywell F300 Electronic Air Cleaner

Features

Available in five sizes to fit most ducts; adapts to airflow from either side.
Has one or two cells, depending on cabinet size.
Efficiency and arrestance ratings based on the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers Standard 52.2-1999.
Fractional Efficiency: 0.3 micron particles at 500 fpm.
Fractional Efficiency: 1.0 micron particles at 500 fpm.
Capacity varies from 1000 cfm (1700 m3/hr) to 2000 cfm (3400 m 3 /hr), depending on size.
Solid state power supply is self-regulating and maintains peak efficiency during a wide range of cell dirt loading conditions.

Today's homes are built "tighter" to help conserve resources and save expenses. As a result, there's less fresh air circulation.
